Green School Workshop, Hillsborough County June 9, 2012
Saturday, June 9, 2012 from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM (EDT)
Register to attend an environmental education workshop for charter school educators using the Fl Dept. of Environmental Protection's Green Schools program. Registration is required to attend the workshop.
Investment in green schools is long term, producing multiple benefits such as: reduced operating costs, increased protection of natural resources, increased connections between the community and the school and a healthier, safer and more productive learning environment. By learning how each individual’s actions affect the environment, and by learning the steps that will benefit, restore and sustain our natural resources, our students will be ready to continue with the steps necessary for a sustainable future. This workshop will provide resources to help green your school and students. It can be used to enhance your STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math) programming.
This workshop is open to all schools. There is no cost to register or attend this professional development training and this training will qualify for 6 in-service points. Please remember to also register on the Professional Development (or Lawson) System. This workshop has been entered into this system by the hosting school Learning Gate.
For further information about this training, contact Jackie Zimmerman (850) 245-2145 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
When & Where
Fl. Dept. of Environmental Protection
The Department of Environmental Protection protects and manages Florida's natural resources while enforcing the environmental laws that protect these unique treasures. Overseeing the more than 160 award-winning state parks, the Department is also charged with conserving environmentally-sensitive lands, restoring waterways and preserving the state's historical and cultural resources through Florida Forever.
The Office of Environmental Education seeks to cultivate and support environmental citizenship: the awareness, understanding and appreciation of Florida's environment; and the capacity to think critically and participate constructively in its protection. The Office of Environmental Education’s core program includes outdoor experiential environmental education for middle school students, the annual Florida Green School Awards Program, and summer teacher professional development workshops. In addition, the Office of Environmental Education supports outreach initiatives within the Department of Environmental Protection, including the agency’s annual Earth Day at the Capitol event, as well as regional education efforts such as the Gulf of Mexico Alliance’s Environmental Education
